I am a partner at Latham & Watkins LLP in San Francisco and an adjunct professor at U.C. Berkeley Boalt Hall School of Law. I received law degrees from the University of California at Davis and the University of Bayreuth, Germany, and a Ph.D. in philosophy of law from the University of Bonn. I have published a prize-winning book on the philosophy of punishment and articles on antitrust and jurisprudence. I am a frequent speaker on antitrust and law & economics topics, and a founder of the Law & Society Blog and the Antitrust Review. I am involved in various open culture initiatives and in civil liberties and digital privacy advocacy.
